Scattering vector definition Parent topic

Scattering vector and phase delay

Fig. 1. Scattering vector definition. Consider scattering, at an angle θ, of a plane wave with the wave vector ki , incident horizontally from the left, by an arbitrarily selected scattering center P. Far away from P, the wavefront of the scattered wave can be also locally represented by a plane. The vector diagram (right) illustrates the relationship, ks = ki + q, between the wave vector, ki, of the incident wave, that of the scattered wave, ks, and the scattering vector q.
