Near-field light enhancement in the intermediate regime at forward scattering Prev topic | Next topic

In the intermediate scattering regime, dielectric scatterers with a real refractive index greater than that of the medium may produce scattered fields with magnitude much higher than that of the incident EM wave; such as metallic nanoparticles in the electrostatic regime (see Near-field light enhancement in the electrostatic regime). Wavelength-sized dielectric particles can produce such high field amplification close to their shadow-side surface in the direction of propagation of the incident light, i.e. at the forward scattering (for example, Chen Z et al 2004). The spatial location and extent of the EM field enhancement can be controlled by the particle size, shape, and refractive index (Mendes MJ et al 2010).
