Scattering matrix of mineral particles Prev topic | Next topic

Volten et al (2006b) and Volten et al (2005) developed a database of experimental scattering matrix elements as functions of the scattering angle measured at two wavelengths of light: 441.6 and 632.8 nm for of micron-sized mineral particles in random orientation. Particle size distribution, SEM images of the particles, and refractive indices of the particle material are also provided.

Muņoz et al (2006) compare results of the scattering matrix measurements for mineral particles with high refractive index (hematite and rutile) with matrices calculated by using Mie theory and T-matrix method for spheroids and cylinders. They suggest that a sphere may be an acceptable shape model for describing light scattering by these particles.
