Scattering by a coated sphere: Test values Parent topic

Table 1. Results of calculations of the attenuation efficiency, Qc, and scattering efficiency, Qb, of coated spheres. Column x1 contains the relative particle size, i.e. the relative size of the shell. The refractive indices of the shell and the core (relative to that of the surrounding non-absorbing medium) are respectively m1 = 1.33 − i 0 and the core m2 = 1.59 − i 0.66, the core relative size x2 = 0.5. The values of the efficiencies have been obtained with a program developed by Liu Lei et al 2007 (program code) and MJC Light Scattering Calculator for Coated Sphere (CSS). The results obtained with both these programs agree to within the numerical precision shown.
