| Problem: Why is the sky blue |
The blue color of the cloudless sky is usually explained by stating that sunlight is scattered by fluctuations of the density of air which have the average size much smaller than the wavelength of light, λ. Given that the wavelength dependence of light scattering by such a medium is λ-4 (for example, Bohren and Huffman 1983, p. 132), blue light scatters more than red light. Is this the complete explanation of the blue color of clear sky?
