Solid angle: definition geometry

Geometry of the solid angle definition by using a spherical cap as a surface subtending the solid angle, ω, at the sphere center: φ - half-apex angle of the solid angle, A - area of a region of the sphere surface (spherical cap), R - radius (arbitrary) of the sphere, r - radius of the projection of the spherical cap onto a plane perpendicular to R. Note that the definition of the solid angle does not require the shaded region at the sphere surface to be of any particular shape, hence it is shown here as a circular region.
