Ray pencil geometry

Notation: S - elementary solid angle in the source-containing medium with a refractive index mS, R - elementary solid angle in the receiver-containing medium, with a refractive index, mR, dApS and dApR are the projected (i.e normal to the axis of the ray pencil) elementary areas of the source and receiver, respectively, n is the normal to the interface. The layout of the drawing implies that mS > mR.
