Complex refractive index of fused quartz Prev topic | Next topic

Fused quartz is used in diverse fields, including optics (optical fiber, lenses, beam splitters, etc.), micro and optoelectronics, and particulate materials, such as fibrous thermal insulation. The complex refractive index index of fused quartz is an essential parameter in characterization and optimization of the optical performance of this material in its various applications.

Pilon (2002) reviews experimental studies of the complex refractive index of fused quartz in a light wavelength range of 0.2 µm to 15 µm and over a range of temperatures from 23°C to 481°C. The sources and wavelength ranges of experimental data on the real part of the refractive index are listed and the data as well as the approximations of the spectra of the real part are discussed in the Real part section. The sources of data and wavelength ranges for the imaginary part are listed and the data as well as approximations of the spectra are discussed in the Imaginary part section.
