| Particle size and density by sedimentation and particle tracking | Prev topic | Next topic |
The classical sedimentation method of particle analysis requires that all particles must have the same density. This restriction can be overcome by measuring simultaneously the particle sizes and settling velocities of individual sedimenting particles. Historically, this variant of the sedimentation method relied on photographic measurements (for example, Li and Ganczarczyk 1987). More recently, digital photography coupled with image analysis has been used (for example, Hubner et al 2001) to allow automated analysis of the particle size distribution and particle mass distribution.
