Fig. 1. Geometry of the definition of the beam spread function (BSF) of turbid medium (after Gordon HR 1994). S is a unidirectional light source (collimated light beam) emitting in a direction defined by the unit vector, uS, D is the irradiance detector (irradiance meter), uD0 is the unit vector pointing from the source to the detector, r is the distance between the irradiance meter and the light source. A "plane" version of BSF is defined at a finite-size image plane tangent to the spherical surface.
