Coincidence correction: Polydispersions |
Prev topic | Next topic |
In the case of a polydispersion, the effect of coincidence is more complex than the coincidence correction for monodispersions and depends on the characteristics of the counter itself, the arrangement of the particles within the sensing zone of the counter, and the sizes of the particles relative to each other and the zone volume. Princen and Kwolek (1965) examined the polydisperse coincidence correction for a log-normal PSD quite some time ago, but their prescription is of limited practical value. Hence, the monodisperse corrections have been widely used as imperfect but simple approximations. Wynn and Hounslow (1997) developed a more comprehensive algorithm for correcting the coincidence effect in polydispersions that does not assume a specific form of PSD.
