Problem: Scattering correction for a transmissometer

In the note Measuring attenuation of light: General comments on experimental arrangements, the authors state that for transmission measurement arrangements that use a highly collimated light beam with the lens-aperture limiting system for the detector acceptance angle (Fig. 1 in Limits of the acceptance angle and its instrumental implementations), the interpretation of the light-scattering-related error of the transmission measurement is simple. Indeed, in this case, the detector acceptance angle is the same for the entire sample, assuming that the lens has a sufficiently large diameter to avoid vignetting of that angle. They also state that in other cases, including the cylindrically-limited transmissometer design (for example, Voss KJ and Austin 1993) using an extended-area light source, the acceptance angle may vary with the position of the elementary scattering volume within the sample. This complicates evaluation of the contribution of single-scattered light admitted by the detector.

With what other measuring arrangements discussed in the Measuring attenuation of light thread, the variability of the acceptance angle with the position of a scattering volume within a sample makes it complicated to correct the measurement of the transmission of light for the effect of light scattering?
