| Absorption of light in turbid media: Photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) | Prev topic | Next topic |
Photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) is similar to optoacoustic spectroscopy in that both use the absorption of light by a sample to create a measurement signal. In PDS (for example, Bialkowski 1996, Jackson et al 1981), the absorption of light by a sample affects the refractive index of the sample which in turn is measured by sensing the deflection of a probe laser beam. A sample application of that latter method is the measurement of the absorption spectra of water (Sogandares and Fry 1997).
