Extensive computations of the total Mie scattering coefficient K have been carried out using the IBM 701 electronic data processing machine. The detailed results show very clearly the nature as well as the complexity of the scattering coefficient. K has been computed for size parameters 0≤ α ≤ 30 in steps of Δα = 0.1 and for 5 indexes of refraction n = 1.33, 1.40, 1.44, 1.486, and 1.50. The results of the computations considered correct to 5 significant figures are listed in tables and displayed in figures. [Reprinted by permission of the Optical Society of America]
