Enhancement of absorption by near-field scattering

Enhancement of absorption by near-field scattering for various nanoparticle shapes
Fig. 1. The squared magnitude of the enhancement factor for absorption by GaAs containing silver nano-ellipsoids of various shapes, as a function of the wavelength of the incident EM wave. Λc is the polarizability of the particle and Ψc depends on the particle geometry. The ellipsoid axes are oriented along the direction of the magnetic field (H), the electric field (E), and the propagation vector (k) of the incident wave, respectively. For example, the Hk-dish is an oblate spheroid oriented with its major axes along the H and k vectors. Lc is the geometrical depolarization factor (Luque A et al 2008, Eq. 21, see also Bohren CF and Huffman 1983, p. 145).   The figure reproduced by permission from Luque A et al 2008, copyright 2008 by American Institute of Physics.
