Wavenumber - usually denoted by k, is defined as 2π / λ, where λ is the wavelength. This latter expression is equivalent to ω / v, where ω is the angular frequency and v is the phase velocity of the wave. Note that a different definition (1 / λ) is used in spectroscopy.
