Secondary organic serosol - aerosol comprised of organic material formed in the atmosphere via the oxidation of gas phase organics, particularly hydrocarbons. As the precursor hydrocarbons are oxidized, some of their oxidation products have sufficiently low volatility to enter the aerosol phase, and others are absorbed into particles and incorporated via reactions within the particles. Particle-phase organic material is commonly found as a mixture with metals, inorganic salts, and inorganic carbon (soot or "black carbon"). See Seinfeld JH and Pandis 2006 for further reading. [SEP]
