PM - particulate matter concentration (mass). In aerosol research, PM₁, PM_2.5, and PM₁₀ (also denoted by PM1, PM2.5, and PM10) represent mass concentrations of particles with aerodynamic diameters respectively less than 1, 2.5, and 10 µm. These values specify the 50% collection efficiency cut-offs of the sampling devices (for example, Morawska L and Salthammer 2003b, p.8; see also Krzyżanowski M 1999). In the case of atmospheric aerosols, the PM values are typically expressed in µg m^-3. [LM]
