Immunolabel - a metallic nanoparticle, typically of gold or silver, used as a high-contrast label in electron microscopy immunoassay. Although metallic nanoparticles have found a broader range of applications in biological imaging and elsewhere (for example, see Optics of nanoshells), the term "immunolabel" is commonly used in the scientific literature.
